'State of Calamity' marks Nicolas Cage's return to sci-fi films after almost ten years, since ' Knowing' in 2009. Here, the actor stars in an action packed feature, but also with social and political allegories – after all, global warming, financial crises and immigration have become a great problem of the world in a near future, set in 2030. That is, an action movie with sci-fi for the political critique of the post-Donald Trump world. Still, it's not one of those movies to take too seriously – by the way, it's good to say, not even the production takes itself too seriously. It's honest fun.

Do you remember Wednesday Addams from "The Addams Family"? She's grown up now! Christina Ricci plays a woman living in a gated community with an advanced security camera system - which she begins to believe is being used to control the residents. It's a story that echoes the spirit of our times, especially in Brazil, where many live locked in gated communities with fences, electric fences, cameras, and monitoring. The cast also includes John Cusack (Golden Globe-nominated for "High Fidelity"). Although the script lacks the depth that the basic premise of the story requires, Christina turns in a great performance.

Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite, a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.

The Order
In The Order, Van Damme plays a man accused of murder who seeks a sacred scripture in Jerusalem before it falls into the wrong hands, jeopardizing his freedom. With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.

Enemies Closer, a movie starring Van Damme, brings a fun story: Henry (Tom Everett Scott) and Clay (Orlando Jones) are mortal enemies who must set aside their differences to help a drug lord (Jean-Claude Van Damme) locate a missing drug shipment. The film features a plot full of twists that keeps the viewer constantly engaged, in a good mix of suspense and action. Van Damme also steps out of his comfort zone, playing this crime boss full of quirks - but still with plenty of brawling.
