Why watch this film?
This is one of the best movies from the great director Paul Thomas Anderson, so you can imagine what high level it has. 'There Will Be Blood' is a powerful portrait of greed and ambition in its most ferocious and ruinous forms, embodied by the always brilliant Daniel Day-Lewis with a perfection that is scary. The movie was awarded an Oscar for Best Actor and Best Photography, and was nominated in six other categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Boogie Nights
It's another masterpiece from renowned filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. 'Boogie Nights: Pleasure Games' delves into the Golden Age of pornography during one of its period of transformation, shedding taboos and presenting us with complex characters we can sympathize with, with a star-studded cast that includes the great Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds (Oscar winner for this movie), Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, William H. Macy and Mark Wahlberg in what is by far the best role of his career. True to his illustrious pornographer's trend, "P.T." Anderson delivers a quite long movie (just over two and a half hours), but it's so powerful you won't even suffer through it.

The Master
In simple terms, 'The Master: Every Man Needs a Guide' is one of the great Paul Thomas Anderson's best (which says a lot from someone who already has 'Magnolia', 'Boogie Nights: Pleasure Games' and 'Blood Oil' in his filmography). With phenomenal performances from a stellar cast led by Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, it's a movie with enough depth to allow for multiple readings, from an existential portrait of post-war United States, to a parody of the birth of Scientology, or even a fable about the essential need to make sense of our own existence. It's dense, but without a doubt one of the greatest movies of our century.
![Magnolia](https://media.filmelier.com/images/filmes/thumb/magnolia18979.jpeg)
Magnolia
This movie is one of the great jewels in the filmography of the great director Paul Thomas Anderson, even though it doesn't receive the same recognition. 'Magnolia' brings, for example, one of the best dramatic roles of Tom Cruise, who won the Golden Globe for this movie. The feature film is an epic kaleidoscope that portrays love and forgiveness, as well as pain and misery in human relationships in all areas: romantic, family and marital. Without a doubt, it is a powerful drama, worthy of the Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear, as well as the three Oscar nominations.

Punch-Drunk Love
Adam Sandler in one of his best roles! Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson ('Punch-Drunk Love'), this is a creative and intelligent dramedy about the life of a lonely man suffering from OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and having difficulty connecting with people. The movie also has a memorable soundtrack, coordinating different events of the plot.
![ANIMA](https://media.filmelier.com/images/filmes/thumb/anima16224.jpeg)
ANIMA
This short film represents the collaboration between two great artists of our time: filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (of 'Boogie Nights' and 'Phantom Thread') and musician Thom Yorke (of the alternative rock band Radiohead). 'ANIMA' accompanies Yorke's solo album of the same name, transforming into a new - and visually spectacular - way to enjoy the sound, which comes to life on Netflix's screen.
![Phantom Thread](https://media.filmelier.com/tit/3YxD9I/thumb/phantom-thread_r-pNqr8.jpeg)
Phantom Thread
'Phantom Thread' is a typical film from director Paul Thomas Anderson – still, with beautiful camera moves, aesthetically virtuosic and with great performances. Try to watch this movie without developing an aversion to Daniel Day-Lewis' character, which is impeccable. Besides him, Lesley Manville and Vicky Krieps are great in their roles. It's worth remembering that both Day-Lewis and Manvielle were nominated for the Oscar.
![Licorice Pizza](https://media.filmelier.com/tit/DGKBZ3/thumb/licorice-pizza_LMTXI5I.jpeg)
Licorice Pizza
This is one of the most anticipated movies of the 2022 season, with three Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Original Screenplay, and Directing. 'Licorice Pizza' has won over critics and shows how Paul Thomas Anderson is a great filmmaker, especially in his role as director. Aesthetically speaking, the production shows the best of cinema. The soundtrack and cinematography are impeccable - even the peculiar construction of a road movie that doesn't take place on the road is quite intriguing. The casting direction is another extremely positive point, as well as the debut of actors Cooper Hoffman (son of Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Alana Haim (from the indie band Haim). However, the screenplay, written by Anderson, ends up leaving something to be desired when we have the naturalization of a relationship between a 15-year-old boy and an adult woman, who is ten years older than him. Although an explanation may be the time frame, it is extremely unpleasant this approach. Love can break barriers, there is the question of the story taking place in another era and so on, but romanticizing it is problematic. Another extremely complicated point are the xenophobic jokes with Japanese people. There is no more room for prejudiced anachronism in cinema. Leaving aside these problems, it is impossible not to recognize that Paul Thomas Anderson brought a freshness to romantic comedies. 'Licorice Pizza' would be even better if the issues mentioned were treated differently.

![The Peasants](https://media.filmelier.com/tit/P39qx1/thumb/the-peasants_DVNPwyY.jpeg)
The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
