Why watch this film?

Starring young Disney series star Jenna Ortega from 'Stuck in the Middle', 'A Great Friendship' is a simple adventure movie that's suitable for the whole family, whose premise is used as a pretext to show the cruelty that circus animals often endure. It's the kind of movie that will certainly remind you of classics like 'Homeward Bound', 'Napoleon' or 'Free Willy', but with elephants. The performances are decent and the characters are very straightforward, although you may recognize a couple of faces, including David Arquette ('Scream') and Rhea Perlman ('Matilda').

Plot summary

Flora is a circus elephant who can no longer perform her tricks. The night before she's scheduled to be euthanized, the circus owner's 14-year old daughter, Dawn, sneaks Flora from the circus. All that stands between them and the safety of the elephant preserve is two hundred kilometers of woods, one raging river, two elephant hunters and the fear of not making it.
