Why watch this film?
Nicholas Sparks is the owner of an infinite number of romantic stories always similar and with strangely similar characters, such as 'The Notebook', 'Safe Haven', 'A Walk to Remember' and 'The Choice'. In 'Dear John', one of the audience's favorites, there is not much really different in Sparks' narrative adapted for the big screen. We follow the story of a soldier on leave who falls madly in love with a beautiful and conservative college girl, with all the predictable unfolding of a plot like this. However, the good performances of Amanda Seyfried ('Mank') and Channing Tatum ('Magic Mike') help the movie to have some differential and be memorable in its ending.

A Dog's Purpose
Adapted from W. Bruce Cameron's eponymous novel, 'A Dog's Purpose' is a movie with generous doses of drama and comedy, perfectly designed to move dog lovers. Its greatest sin is seeking easy tears, by pure and shameless manipulation of emotions. Stay away if you don't like such sugary movies, but if you have or have had a dog, we warn you: you will cry.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Despite a talented cast, including Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and young promise Mackenzie Foy, 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms' is among the weakest Disney narratives in recent years (and unfortunately, with very little dance for a story based on the famous ballet 'The Nutcracker' by Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky). However, on the other hand there is an impressive production design and spectacular special effects, making the movie worth it for the visuals (which really enchant).
![Chocolat](https://media.filmelier.com/tit/ha01uG/thumb/chocolat_TzYpHFY.jpeg)
Chocolat
Based on Joanne Harris' novel and directed by Lasse Hallström (of the melancholic 'Chocolat'), 'Chocolat' is yet another light and sweet fable about liberating desire, with a kitschy view of romance. If this movie were a dessert, it would be comparable to an industrial chocolate like any other, pleasant enough to please, but definitely not as memorable as the delicacies its protagonist makes. However, Juliette Binoche ('The Freedom is Blue') is as good as ever, accompanied by a strong cast including Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Alfred Molina.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.

Suite Française
Set in France during 1940, Suite Française follows beautiful Lucile Angellier who awaits news from her husband, a prisoner of war, whilst leading a stifled existence with her mean, controlling mother-in-law. When Parisian refugees pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers' homes, Lucile’s life is turned upside down. In the Angellier home, Lucile initially tries to ignore Bruno, the handsome and refined German officer who has been posted to live with them. But soon, a powerful love draws them together and traps them in the tragedy of war.
