Why watch this film?

What a beautiful movie, albeit stumbling, is 'Padrenostro' by filmmaker Claudio Noce. Here, he found the necessary sensitivity to tell his own story: that of a little boy who saw his father become a victim of an attack at the door of his house. What traumas were created in the head of this very young boy? Very well interpreted by Mattia Garaci, the child shows that he had to grow up early and quickly after the attempted assassination of his father - which never has his real profession clarified. Every time someone knocked on the door, the boy froze. Every time his father left, apprehension. Would he be able to come back? After all, Italy was living through the "lead years". His father was directly involved. Noce, showing his vision as a child, never speaks directly about political or social facts. As any child, little Valerio picks up the clues, the signs. We, as mere spectators, see everything through his eyes. It is no coincidence that the director insists on always putting the camera on the boy's face or, then, on his neck, as if we were seeing through him. In addition, after the trauma, a boy appears in Valerio's life. It is Christian, a seemingly street boy, always dirty and with a shoulder bag, who only appears to the protagonist-child. Is it a ghost? Is it the character's schizophrenia? What happens? These are narrative touches that pop up here and there and make the movie more challenging and tasty. Even though the director loses his grip in the second half, especially in the matter involving the mysterious Christian, there is delicacy here and really beautiful moments - mainly with actor Pierfrancesco Favino, interpreter of the boy's father. 'Padrenostro' is a slow and contemplative film, but with a beauty and innocence of its own.
