Why watch this film?
Winner of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or, "Triangle of Sadness" is not a comfortable film. Divided into a three-part structure, it is typical Ruben Östlund (also awarded for "The Square") cinema: filled with strange moments, uncomfortable comedy and, above all, a provocation to the world's billionaires. In the story, we follow a cruise with very rich people who suddenly shipwreck and, after some deaths, part of the group gets stuck on an island. From there, Östlund makes a sharp comment about social relationships and how these people are only concerned with themselves. Between love and hate, the film is not at all subtle in its observations (as is typical in Östlund's cinema), but it manages to draw the attention of those who enjoy a comedy that does not think of limits and laughs - of the other, of itself and, above all, of the system we are inserted into.

The Square
This movie is packed with satire, making a brilliant critique of elitist views of contemporary art, especially from a European point of view. At certain points, it contrasts social differences, while, in its subtext, showing that we are all, ultimately, animals. It's important to note that this is not just a movie; it can be seen as a manifesto for current art and the 21st century world. The result is a production that is a delight for movie lovers. It's very different from the kinds of films that usually win the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or, showcasing the genius and provocation of the movie.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
