Why watch this film?
Mia Hansen-Løve is one of the most creative filmmakers of the 2010s and 2020s, responsible for productions like La Isla de Bergman. She is a director who knows how to play with the script, mixing literature with film, and providing the right amount of emotion. This is also true for Una Linda Mañana, a French production that follows the story of a young woman (Léa Seydoux) living with her eight-year-old daughter while taking care of her father, who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease. At this moment she experiences various emotions in her life: seeking an appropriate home for elderly adults, taking care of her daughter and even finding space to love. Although it is less inventive than La Isla de Bergman, Hansen-Løve demonstrates her creativity and skill in telling human stories, going through different emotions.

Bergman Island
It is understandable to have reservations before watching 'Bergman Island'. After all, putting a name like that of filmmaker Ingmar Bergman in the title is something few do and, whether we like it or not, it already shows some pretension. However, what a pleasant surprise: the feature film is a great success. Directed by the talented Mia Hansen-Løve (from 'Things to Come'), 'Bergman Island' tells the story of a couple of filmmakers (Vicky Krieps and Tim Roth) who go to the island of Faro, where Bergman lived, to find some peace and inspiration. The idea of the two is to leave with some script ideas so that they can command new films in the following years. However, while they are there in settings reminiscent of films like 'Scenes from a Marriage', more things are born, emerging, transforming either in the relationship between the two or in the way of facing life, work, and cinema. With Krieps and Roth's top-notch work, who manage to interpret this vital energy in transformation, we easily embark on the plot. The most interesting thing about 'Bergman Island', however, is the metalinguistic way in which Hansen-Løve approaches Chris and Tony's relationship with cinema. Here, the main focus of the feature is to identify, develop and delve into the way cinema influences our lives and vice versa. Vicky is influenced by Bergman. Then her cinema influences third parties. Even influencing us, on the other side of the screen.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
