Why watch this film?
Based on Tess Wakefield's novel 'Purple Hearts', the movie promises to be much more than a romantic drama. It is a story where hope blossoms between two people with very different views of the world around them: an artist and a navy seal who, despite their differences, fall in love. The story is a celebration for all those who have ever been in love, and also offers strong doses of emotion. The movie stars Sofia Carson ('Feel the Beat') and, in addition, also offers something for music lovers.

Careful What You Wish For
The singer Nick Jonas does well in the role of an 18-year-old young man who is going to spend the summer with his family by a lake. Needing money, the boy accepts the offer of a banker to fix his yacht. However, the wealthy man's wife entangles him in a web of seduction and crime. It may seem cliché, but the twists and turns manage to escape the ordinary.

Sneakerella
The adventure of Cinderella - or 'Sneakerella', as you prefer - continues to fascinate, and now inspires a new story. This time, the fairy tale really got a new face, as the protagonist is a black boy and the glass slipper is a cool sneaker. This change of gender and the diversified characters give a modern twist to the narrative. Thus, 'Sneakerella' is a good mix of 'High School Musical' with 'In a New York Neighborhood' - without the dose of realism of the latter, since it is a feature with the plastic and dreamy aesthetics of Disney. Some characters deserved more screen time, but it's fun to see the usual Cinderella roles occupied by opposite genders - a fairy godmother, even, had already been seen in the Prime Video version, 'Cinderella', with Camila Cabello. 'Sneakerella', without a doubt, gives a great makeover to the story and manages to deliver the entertainment it proposes.
Musicals

An American in Paris
Jerry Mulligan, a struggling American painter in Paris, is "discovered" by an influential heiress with an interest in more than Jerry's art. Jerry in turn falls for Lise, a young French girl already engaged to a cabaret singer. Jerry jokes, sings and dances with his best friend, an acerbic would-be concert pianist, while romantic complications abound.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Part two in French filmmaker Jacques Demy's informal romantic trilogy (begun with Lola), The Umbrellas of Cherbourg continues the director's experimentation with the idea of a full musical, where songs completely take the place of dialogue from start to finish, in combination with naturalistic performances as a counterpoint to an extremely colorful and artificial, almost saccharine production design. For those accustomed to the Hollywood musical formula, this may seem strange, even uncomfortable. However, the effect achieved by Demy is one of profound emotionality and, paradoxically, feels less artificial, perfect for telling this story about the earnestness of a young girl's (Catherine Deneuve) first love who is separated from her beloved boyfriend (Nino Castelnuovo) by his enlistment for war in Algeria, sending their lives on tragically separate paths. Winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg remains one of the most singular musicals in history.
