Why watch this film?
'Slumberland' is a movie inspired by Winsor McCay's comic stories. The plot follows an 11-year-old girl, Nemo (Marlow Barkley), who one night discovers that it is possible to travel through dreams. She is accompanied by an eccentric man known as Flip (Jason Momoa), who accompanies her on her journey in the hope of seeing the father she recently lost. It is a cinematic adaptation with great special effects, great production values and a good cast, even if it lacks heart. Something interesting is to see Jason Momoa in a very different role from his tough characters (like in 'Game of Thrones' or 'Aquaman'), in a movie for the whole family.

Inspired by Richard Matheson's homonymous book, 'I Am Legend' might be the most desolate setting of an epidemic. Here, director Francis Lawrence (from 'The Hunger Games') puts Will Smith's character as the only survivor of a collapsed world -- besides, of course, his companion dog. The rest of the people in the world were infected, turning them into a kind of zombie. As said, it is the most devastating version possible for a viral infection scenario. But the emotion with some scenes, Will Smith's remarkable performance and the comforting ending can serve as good entertainment.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
If the first movie represented a leap of success in cinema for the science fiction literary saga written by Suzanne Collins, the second one consolidated it as a true success that surpassed its predecessor. 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' has the questionable stylistic decisions of the first part, becoming a conventional but effective sequel, bigger and more exciting that, furthermore, ended up cementing Jennifer Lawrence as a great young star of the time.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1
After three action-packed films and great moments, the saga of Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence, with her career already established) begins to come to an end with the awaited 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1'. Even though it has the same problem as 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1', another film that closes a saga and that was split into two, with a sometimes too slow tone, this feature film directed by Francis Lawrence knows how to bring the dystopian desolation atmosphere to another level. Desperation takes over and the good cast, with names like Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson, helps to elevate this franchise film to another level, getting away from juvenile nonsense that took over adaptations like 'Divergent'. It is exciting, it is moving and it starts well the journey to close the saga.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
Alright, fair enough: the 'Hunger Games' franchise at the movies didn't have nearly the same impact as 'Harry Potter' and 'The Lord of the Rings', two other fantasy sagas inspired by successful books. Still, you can't diminish the quality of the films headed by Jennifer Lawrence ('Silver Linings Playbook'), which mix dystopia with romance and action. In 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2', we are invited to embark on the great finale of the saga, with some of the scenes most awaited by fans of the franchise, such as the clash between Katniss and President Snow. Again, it is not a flawless film, since it has some holes and some narrative voids that tire. However, director Francis Lawrence knows how to give fans what they want most, with some truly anticipated and exciting scenes.
Red Sparrow
'Red Sparrow' brings an interesting story set during the Cold War - with clear references to Marvel's Black Widow character - and a good twist at the end. There is a lot of violence, good fight scenes, and sexual appeal, but there is a lack of chemistry between the actors, besides Jennifer Lawrence being unfortunately on auto-pilot. The result is a movie that doesn't hook us, but works as entertainment.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Even though it extended too much in its last chapter, the Hunger Games franchise is very closed, with a good story developing Katniss's (Jennifer Lawrence) journey. Now, staying in the same universe, in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes we follow the story of the saga's biggest villain: President Snow. No longer in old age, played by Donald Sutherland, but in his youth, now played by the talented Tom Blyth. It's a story of personality creation, in which we follow this much-hated character in development — from his harsh childhood, to his youthful brilliance and the complicated romance of Lucy Gray (Rachel Zegler, the film's weak point). Filmmaker Francis Lawrence, who directed all the other films in the franchise, returns to the director's chair and does a good job, bringing elements that have already been successful (such as games, the best scene in the film) with other new features, such as unexpected musical scenes .

Robot Dreams
Sometimes we get so carried away by the marketing power of studios like Disney Pixar, and we overlook other avenues for deep and powerful animated stories that don't need excessively complex plots to evoke emotions. Such is the case with Robot Dreams, a Hispanic-French production directed by Pablo Berger (2012’s Snow White), based on the eponymous graphic novel by Sara Varon. Set in New York during the 80s, the story follows Dog, whose solitary life leads him to buy a robot for companionship. Their friendship grows, but an unfortunate day at the beach forces them to separate and long for the day of their reunion. Virtually without dialogue, with vibrant animation and a captivating visual language, the film tells a simple yet profoundly moving story about (curiously) human relationships and the course they take despite (or because of) accidents, fortuitous circumstances, and uncontrollable events that happen throughout life.
