Why watch this film?
Selected for the 2023 Sundance Festival, this Netflix exclusive documentary follows journalist Rachel "Rae" de León as she travels across the United States investigating a disturbing pattern: women are sexually abused and report it to the police, but are then accused of making false reports, arrested, and even imprisoned for it. Although Victim/Suspect falls into the exploitative trap of other Netflix documentaries about real crimes, the information presented here is well worth seeing to understand how institutionalized misogyny operates to perpetuate its own system.
