The Kill Room

An unsuspecting hitman becomes an art world sensation, pitting the underworld against the art dealer.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Patrice (Uma Thurman, from Kill Bill) is a failed art dealer who can't sell a single painting, surrounded by debt and dissatisfied artists. However, the course of her life changes when two men cross her path. One of them is the eccentric Gordon (Samuel L. Jackson), a baker who wants to use the art gallery as a money laundering business – which Patrice, after some resistance, accepts. The other is the assassin Reggie (Joe Manganiello), who not only does the dirty work of killing people but also takes on the task of painting the pictures that the gallerist will sell at inflated prices. But the charm of this film by director Nicol Paone (in her second feature after the weak Friendsgiving) lies in the commentary on the art market, which takes senseless paths when collectors become desperate to obtain a single painting by Bagman – the codename adopted by Reggie. And then comes the question: what is art? Paone ends up shortening the discussion more than she should, creating a film that is only average but manages to entertain and, above all, question the picture on the wall.
