Why watch this film?

The Tekken video game saga doesn't enjoy the same level of success as other more well-known franchises like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. While it also features many fantastical elements - and even some that might seem a bit ridiculous in line with Japanese sensibilities - it is perceived as a more grounded story of revenge, fights, and a hint of corporate intrigue thrown into the mix. The 2010 adaptation of Tekken competently captures most of these elements: the story still revolves around Jin, a young fighter who enters the titular tournament to seek revenge against Mishima Zaibatsu and its president, Heihachi Mishima - his grandfather - whom he blames for his mother's death. There are battles and an intriguing plot that seems to blend elements from sagas like The Hunger Games. If you're a fan of the original video games and their extravagant stories but also seek entertainment without grand aspirations, you'll enjoy it.
