A Menina Índigo
"A Menina Índigo" directed by Wagner de Assis tells the story of Sofia, a child with special abilities belonging to the Indigo generation. Kardec
Director Wagner Assis, of "Nosso Lar" and "A Menina Índigo", returns to the spiritist doctrine - but this time, with a historical account. "Kardec" tells the story of Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail, better known by the pseudonym Allan Kardec, famous for codifying, systematizing and spreading the doctrine in mid-19th century France. The biography is extremely well-intentioned and well-directed, made to please the spiritist community or those seeking to learn more about kardecism - although, as a film, it lacks greater involvement between the viewer and the characters, since the protagonists were portrayed as historical figures placed on a pedestal.
Amor Assombrado
The movie is about a woman (played by Vanessa Gerbelli, famous for telenovelas on Globo and RecordTV) who, since she was young, suffers with entities that she can see but not understand. All this to debate current issues, such as depression, the indiscriminate use of black labels and wrong diagnosis of pathologies. The feature film bears the signature of Wagner de Assis, who has explored themes of the spirit doctrine in the cinema - including titles such as 'Nosso Lar' and 'Kardec: The Story Behind the Name'. When watching 'Amor Assombrado', those who do not believe in kardecism will see the story of a writer who is tormented by her own characters. Those who believe will see an abusive love that goes far beyond this plane. The cast also features Carmo Dalla Vecchia.

Underdog
In its effort to raise awareness about the precarious social reality of certain sectors of the population, Mexican cinema tends to fall into miserabilism (or so-called "poverty porn"), whether in documentaries or fiction. The quest of Mexican cinema for new creative and narrative horizons is ongoing, and in the case of Underdog (Correr para vivir), director and co-writer Gerardo Dorantes opts for what, in its conventions, is an action and crime thriller extrapolated to the context of the Rarámuri (or Tarahumara) indigenous people of northern Mexico, famous for their running tradition (and their extraordinary talent for it). The plot follows two brothers: Omero (Vladimir Rivera), who dreams of being a runner; and Capó (Manuel Cruz Vivas), who is more talented but also troubled. Both are dragged into a life of service to the drug trade when Capó, in an attempt to provide for his pregnant girlfriend, fails in a cocaine delivery. To be honest, it's a good attempt to steer Mexican cinema towards other directions that are not the typical exploitation of social dramas or anthropological documentaries. However, the film ends up falling into the same vices, representing Rarámuri culture from a superficial and idealized exoticism, creating entertainment from a real social context with little sensitivity.
