Plot summary
Picking up where Beautiful Disaster left off, Abby and Travis wake up after a crazy night in Vegas as accidental newlyweds. With their best friends in tow and Abby’s six-figure poker winnings, they travel to Mexico, where they can enjoy a wild, lavish honeymoon. But as chaos follows “Trabby” at every turn, they must decide if they belong together – or if this marriage is another disaster waiting to happen.

Is love cheesy? Often, yes. And that is exactly the case with 'Falling Inn Love', an original Netflix production starring Christina Milian (from 'Snow Globe') and Adam Demos. The story may be repetitive, with that feeling of having seen this movie before, but that's exactly what you expect from one of these romantic comedies, right? Recommended for couples to watch.
Beautiful Disaster
Straight up: Beautiful Disaster is another teen version of Fifty Shades of Grey, a story that triumphed both in cinemas and bookstores. It's like the saga After, another successful franchise that jumped from the page to the screen, involving teenagers experiencing tension and attraction. This film, which is also an adaptation of a book, doesn't try to reinvent the wheel and follows the same narrative style: teenagers Abby (Virginia Gardner) and Travis (Dylan Sprouse) struggle with the day-to-day challenges of university life in Sacramento, USA. All the symbols, signs, and messages of this type of story are present, aiming to cause excitement among teenagers (the target audience for this kind of story), since they see Sprouse mostly half-naked on screen. Interestingly, perhaps out of learning, the movie is considerably better than After: it doesn't take itself too seriously all the time, eliciting moments of humor and having Sprouse and Gardner delivering great performances.
After We Collided
Continuation of the 2019 feature film, also an adaptation of the book written by Anna Todd. 'After We Collided' follows the protagonist trying to forget the tumultuous relationship she experienced in the first movie. This new plot follows the same problematic line as the previous one and ends up being a reflection of society when it addresses how women end up tolerating toxic relationships because they think that is what love is. The production has a solid cast, captivating soundtrack for the teenage audience, but unfortunately the plot is complicated and can be harmful to young people. It is delicate to analyze a movie in 2021 and identify what we can call the romanticization of an abusive relationship. Maybe this type of narrative should be watched with an alert of what we should avoid in interpersonal relationships.

The Nature of Love
Sophia, a 40-year-old philosophy professor, has been in a stable and conventional marriage to Xavier for a decade. From gallery openings to endless dinner parties, ten years have flown by. When Sophia meets Sylvain, a craftsman renovating the couple’s new country house, Sophia’s world is turned upside down. The two begin a passionate affair fueled by their irresistible physical connection. However, Sophia comes from a wealthy family of intellectuals, while Sylvain comes from a working-class family of manual workers. As they get to know each other on a deeper level, Sophia begins to question her own values after abandoning herself to her great romantic impulses. Director Monia Chokri delivers a smart and sexy romantic comedy, infusing it with spiky energy and fresh perspective, upending genre and gender conventions.
Goyo
Goyo is a romantic film directed by Argentine filmmaker Marcos Carnevale (known for movies like Elsa & Fred). It's about a museum guide with Asperger's syndrome (Nicolás Furtado) who unexpectedly falls in love with the museum's new security guard (Nancy Dupláa), an older woman disillusioned with love. The story is appreciated for its touches of humor and the portrayal of a romantic relationship for a neurodivergent person (in this case, on the autism spectrum). However, the story is somewhat superficial and melodramatic. You'll enjoy it if you're looking for a tender, uncomplicated romance to enjoy with a partner.
Jeanne du Barry
Jeanne du Barry is a French period drama, directed and starring Maïwenn (known for The Fifth Element), about the courtesan and the last official mistress of King Louis XV (Johnny Depp) of France. The film chronicles her life from her childhood and formative years as a servant's daughter, to her rise in French society through sex, alliances, and strategic marriages. Although well-crafted, it is a very conventional drama that, in its making, invites not very favorable comparisons with Barry Lyndon. While Kubrick's classic manages to be a very subtle satire, Maïwenn's film takes itself too seriously. This, considering its representation of the female gender and the backgrounds of its two main stars, not only does not help but invites questioning the purpose of telling this story, with so little hope for its protagonist. You will enjoy it if you like period dramas with sumptuous costumes, or if you are an avid follower of Johnny Depp.
