Why watch this film?
Continuing directly from "X-Men: Days of Future Past", within the new timeline created by the previous film, this story takes place in the 1980s when a villain named Apocalypse awakens after millenia and seeks to create a new mutant order in the world. Despite maintaining the great cast introduced in "X-Men: First Class" and the direction remaining with Bryan Singer, the movie ultimately loses its way with a poor script, clichéd villain, and a plot that fails to develop the propositions left by the previous chapters. Nonetheless, it leaves an interesting hook for a sequel.

X-Men
It marked an era by showing that comic book characters could make a living, feeding a whole new generation of fans. In the story, we meet Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and its secret force, the X-Men, a team that uses its superpowers to contain anyone who threatens the balance between Homo sapiens (normal humans) and Homo superior (mutants). The cast is stellar: Patrick Stewart (at the time known for 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'), Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin (who won an Oscar at only 11 years old) and the then unknown Hugh Jackman. Of course, when viewed with today's eyes, 'X-Men' makes its flaws clearer, but it is still a solid action movie.
X2: X-Men United
Since he has no memory of his past since the events revealed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Logan embarks on a quest for truth in Canada. Additionally, the production further expands the mutant universe, with new characters and conflicts. It's considered by many to be the high point of the franchise's first trilogy.
Superman Returns
Bryan Singer (X-Men) was summoned and decided to continue from where Richard Donner left off. 'Superman: The Return' is a spiritual sequel to 'Superman II', theoretically in the same timeline. After the events of that movie, Superman left Earth to search for Krypton, which could still be living. Upon finding nothing, he returns to the planet that embraced him - and he finds that life has gone on without him. Thus we have a nostalgic movie, made for the more traditional fans. Brandon Routh, in the lead role, has a thankless mission: to carry on Christopher Reeve's legacy, which he does with an acting that is quite close to the original, although adding nothing to the mythology of the character. The highlight, however, is Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, who combines Gene Hackman's humor with a more manic look. As a whole, despite its problems, the feature has good moments and an interesting complexity of emotions. Highlight also to the direction of Singer and the excellent photography of Newton Thomas Sigel (Drive).
Valkyrie
"Valkyrie" tells a true story: that of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the man who attempted to kill none other than Adolf Hitler, seeking to take control of Germany during World War II. In the cinematic version, the German is played by Tom Cruise, in a star-studded cast that still includes names like Kenneth Branagh ("Dunkirk" and "Tenet"), Terence Stamp ("Last Night in Soho") and Bill Nighty ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest") - which puts American and British actors in the roles of important Nazi officers. The direction is by Bryan Singer, at the time famous for films such as the X-Men franchise and "Superman Returns" - from which he reuses much of his aesthetics, lending a superhero air to this period production. That's why the feature film leaves aside historical reconstruction (which would make a great thriller) and delivers an interesting popcorn entertainment. Unfortunately, Cruise fails to personify von Stauffenberg's aristocratic side, but he is successful in transforming the German resistance into a fun for a wider audience - showing that yes, there were those who tried to rise up against fascism and prevent more blood from being shed. For us to reflect, especially in the case of situations like this repeating themselves.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Adapting, albeit with several poetic liberties, the famous 1980s comic arc from the team of Chris Claremont and John Byrne, the movie follows a dark future dominated by Sentinels, robots that hunt mutants, bringing together Professor X and Magneto under one common goal: sending Wolverine to the 1970s and preventing the assassination of Bolivar Trask, the inventor of the Sentinels. Such chronological interference changed the timeline of the mutants from that decade - not only erasing the events of 'X-Men: The Last Stand', but also allowing for new stories to be created. Direction was once again handled by Bryan Singer, who also brought back the original trilogy cast for the scenes set in the future. The result is a highly effective film that combines the best elements of both X-Men phases to construct an exciting story.
Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen was one of the most iconic bands of music between the 1970s and the early 1990s, with Freddie Mercury becoming the face of an astounding musical success – which gave us hits such as 'Love of My Life', 'We are the Champions', 'We Will Rock You' and, of course, 'Bohemian Rhapdosy'. This movie, directed by Bryan Singer ('X-Men'), evokes great moments of Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor, but without great ties to chronology – the goal here is to trace a line that leads from a modest beginning to the big show at Live Aid in 1985. Although part of the criticism has taken it a bit too hard with the shortcomings of the film (complaining about the cliché narrative, lack of empathy and softening elements to have a milder rating), the audience loved it. The biggest highlight, of course, is Rami Malek ('Mr. Robot') in the frontman role.
Action
The Witch: Part 2. The Other One
The Witch: Part 2. The Other One - A fast-paced action, mystery and thriller film that follows a young woman with impressive telekinetic powers, desperately fighting for her life while unraveling the mysteries of her past, pursued by unscrupulous killers. With Blue Dragon Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress (Seo Eun-su) and Best New Actress (Cynthia), this film captures the protagonist's intense battle to find answers and justice, facing not only her persecutors, but also to his own inner demons.
Bloodsport
Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. An American soldier at large in Hong Kong, Van Damme becomes involved in the Kumite, a highly illegal kickboxing competition. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.
War on Terror: KL Anarchy
Khalid, a rebellious cop from an elite special force must prove he is able to work as a team in order to thwart terrorist threats to bring down Kuala Lumpur.
The Order
In The Order, Van Damme plays a man accused of murder who seeks a sacred scripture in Jerusalem before it falls into the wrong hands, jeopardizing his freedom. With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
