Why watch this film?
The Legend of Seabiscuit is one of the most well-known in the history of horse racing and sports in general. With seven Oscar nominations (including Best Picture) and great performances from Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper, William H. Macy, and Elizabeth Banks, 'Seabiscuit' attempts to be a faithful representation of the facts, although it ultimately is a bit sappy.

Free State of Jones
In school history books, we learn about the great facts, the great battles, the famous politicians and generals. But human evolution is not just about the big names, but also about all those unknown people who, at some point, fought for what they believed in. What 'A State of Freedom' does is to highlight one of these small stories, more specifically about those who fought for racial equality in Jones County, Mississippi, during the Civil War. Watching this film is, somehow, to value the efforts of those men - and to have a perspective of history that school books will never bring.

Ocean's 8
The female version of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ with an amazing cast: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, singer Rihanna and rapper Awkwafina. Following the premise of the original movie, this powerful team plans a big heist with lots of female empowerment and humor. After all, we rarely get to see so much female talent starring in one movie!

The Hunger Games
The dystopian sci-fi literary saga for teens written by Suzanne Collins finds a satisfying film adaptation in the hands of director Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit: Soul of a Hero"). Thematically, "The Hunger Games" is like a "toned down" version of movies like "Battle Royale", but it still manages to be an exciting movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The key is Jennifer Lawrence's convincing performance, the role that made her a star.

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
