Bad Blood
Classic movie from director Leos Carax ("Holy Motors"), featuring young Juliette Binoche and Julie Delpy. The film is surprising for being able to mix, in one story, drama, science fiction, romance, thriller... It all starts when a disease appears that affects people who have sex without emotional involvement - which victimizes the younger ones who are in a phase of discovery. But, honestly, words don't do justice to the work. Watch it. As a bonus, the soundtrack includes "Modern Love" by David Bowie; excerpts from the ballet "Romeo and Juliet" by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev; and "Limelight", composed by Charles Chaplin for the classic movie "Limelight".
Annette
Anyone familiar with Leos Carax's filmography can already assume that 'Annette' is not a movie that can be put in a box, with pre-defined concepts - even though it is not as peculiar as the filmmaker's previous work, 'Holy Motors'. The feature film is a product of the minds of the musicians Ron and Russell Mael, from the pop rock band Sparks. Thus, we have a musical that escapes this nomenclature and all the clichés that Hollywood has inserted into the genre. A toxic relationship is the thread of the story, starring Marion Cotillard ('Piaf', 'The Origin') and Adam Driver ('Marriage Story'), which is further shaken by the arrival of a baby, Annette. This is a different, unexpected movie and yet it manages to awaken curiosity for more narratives that escape patterns. The feature brings inspirations from the work of filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and in 'The Umbrellas of Love', by Jacques Demy.

We Live in Time

The Peasants
The Peasants is an animated film by the same directors of Loving Vincent, using the same innovative technique, which could be described as "oil-painted rotoscopy". Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel The Peasants (1904) by Władysław Reymont, it's a tale of desire and revenge told in four episodes, one for each season of the year. The story, set in Poland at the turn of the 20th century, follows a young peasant woman who wreaks havoc by marrying an older, wealthy man, whose son also desires her, despite being married. It is a powerful and bleak, although conventional tale about violence and misogyny, somewhat overshadowed by its beautiful and prodigious visual execution.
Suite Française
Set in France during 1940, Suite Française follows beautiful Lucile Angellier who awaits news from her husband, a prisoner of war, whilst leading a stifled existence with her mean, controlling mother-in-law. When Parisian refugees pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers' homes, Lucile’s life is turned upside down. In the Angellier home, Lucile initially tries to ignore Bruno, the handsome and refined German officer who has been posted to live with them. But soon, a powerful love draws them together and traps them in the tragedy of war.
