Why watch this film?
Bionic is an interesting endeavor from that Brazilian director who, alongside Fernando Meirelles, has best managed to build an international career: Afonso Poyart, known for Solace. In this project, distributed internationally by Netflix, the filmmaker mixes a Brazilian and foreign cast to depict a dystopian future where robotic prostheses dominate sports. It is here that two sisters compete in the long jump in a rivalry that leads down a sinister path. In this way, discussing bodily changes and without ever reaching the depth of Crash or Titane, Poyart creates his futuristic dystopia reflecting on the body, man as machine, and the limits of the human being.

Director Afonso Poyart ("Stronger Than the World", "Two Rabbits") is one of the most interesting voices in Brazilian commercial cinema. After all, he managed to imprint his own style in films that became a success with both audiences and critics. And one of his most interesting projects is "Protesys". From this short film, starring Cauã Reymond, the filmmaker seeks to establish a universe to talk about athletes with disabilities. To do this, he mixes documentary and fiction in a well-crafted narrative and with the aesthetics of Poyart's films, which value good angles and unusual looks. It's a good entry point into the director's world, proving that his cinema still has a lot of space to be conquered and go beyond its possibilities.
Galeria Futuro
"Fun and unusual Brazilian comedy movie, 'Galeria Futuro' is one of those good and unpretentious surprises of national cinema. Directed by four hands by Fernando Sanches ('A Pedra da Serpente') and Afonso Poyart ('2 Coelhos', 'Mais Forte Que o Mundo'), the feature film follows the drama of three friends (Marcelo Serrado, Ailton Graça and Otávio Müller) who work in a gallery, which gives its name to the feature film and which is about to be bought by a pastor to become a church. Desperate to keep this place of connection between them, they decide to sell a lost drug in the store of one of them. That's where the chaos begins. The trio, along with the sub-celebrity Paula (Luciana Paes), enters the world of trafficking and bothers Mesbla (Milhem Cortaz), the drug boss there in the region. Well produced, with an interesting visual, 'Galeria Futuro' manages to make a simple and inspired humor that, when least expected, makes us laugh. There are good scenes in which the characters, drugged, begin to imagine parallel realities. In addition, the feature film manages to bring elements of Brazilian culture to give some personality to the film - a joke involving Faustão with Cortaz and Serrado is particularly hilarious. Obviously, it is not a movie that wants to change your life or anything like that. But still, it will make you spend time with a light, friendly story and that, at the end of the day, you think: what really matters from my past?
