Stronger
The movie is a reflection on the inspiring story of Jeff Bauman, a man who lost his legs in the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013. In this context, it is clear that it is a production that causes some discomfort, but remains inspiring. The script focuses on Bauman's emotional and physical recovery journey. Starring Oscar nominees Jake Gyllenhaal and Miranda Richardson, and Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany, 'Stronger' is a must-see for those looking for great stories.

Halloween
Forget all the other movies in the franchise: this is a direct sequel to the 1978 classic 'Halloween' directed by horror master John Carpenter. Ignoring all the stories told in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, this new movie brings back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, who survived the events of 78 and, suffering from PTSD, seeks revenge against killer Michael Myers. Showing respect towards Carpenter's work, director David Gordon Green does a competent job and is highly praised by critics.

Halloween Kills
Here, one of the most iconic horror films of the 1970s is back in the spotlight for genre fans. In the direct sequel to the 2018 production - which is worth revisiting before tackling 'Halloween Kills' - we follow the endless Halloween night of the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, USA. The protagonist of the original movie, Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), takes a back seat this time and the protagonists are other survivors of the community, who decide to get rid of the bloodthirsty Michael Myers once and for all. Those familiar with the franchise know that joining forces against the killer is a waste of time and a death sentence, as he is practically immortal. But still, we embark on another bloody journey trying to understand why Myers continues with this killing spree. David Gordon Green, who also directed 'Halloween' (2018) and will lead the third movie of this reboot, manages to bring some creativity to a script that, unfortunately, grows little in almost two hours of film. In any case, the gore combined with the scares is a formula that still manages to guarantee fun for those who like slashers and, without a doubt, Green delivered a great job in this regard.

Halloween Ends
Movie that concludes the story started in 'Halloween' 2018 (ignoring all previous films, except the original from 1978) and continued by 'Halloween Kills: The Terror Continues'. Directed again by David Gordon Green, 'Halloween Ends' begins four years after Michael Myers' last appearance, with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally finding some peace. The movie introduces a new character with whom it intends to close a narrative about trauma, fear, prejudice, and marginalization told by its two predecessors. It doesn't always work out and, in fact, ends up leaving Laurie and Michael aside, in a narrative with sudden and not always justified turns. However, for fans of the new trilogy created by Green, it will be a satisfactory closure. Read our full analysis here.
Horror

All Fun and Games
A group of Salem teens discover a cursed knife that unleashes a demon that forces them to play gruesome, deadly versions of childhood games where there can be no winners, only survivors.

Nefarious
On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer gets a psychiatric evaluation during which he claims he is a demon, and further claims that before their time is over, the psychiatrist will commit three murders of his own.

Sick
The best way to describe "Sick" is as a pandemic-era horror movie. Directed by John Hayms (Alone) and co-written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and newcomer Katelyn Crabb, the film is about a group of teenagers who decide to spend the pandemic quarantine isolated in a remote countryside house, only to be invaded by a killer. Without reinventing the wheel, "Sick" is an excellent slasher with a fun self-awareness that, besides being a perfect time capsule of an uncomfortable period in our history, will satisfy genre fans.

Sister Death
When we talk about horror cinema and the name Paco Plaza ([Rec], Veronica), we know we can expect at least a satisfying experience. "Sister Death" confirms the rule: the film is about Narcisa (an outstanding Aria Bedmar), a young woman who had a miraculous childhood and decides to become a novice. Working as a teacher in a former convent turned girls' school, Narcisa soon experiences disturbing and strange events that lead her into a crisis of faith and the unraveling of terrible secrets within the convent. Without reinventing the wheel but with very effective imagery, it's a solid Spanish horror proposition in the ever-engaging trend of "cursed nuns."
